Mandatory Client Update to v.1.3.3 – Hardfork at 96180

Mandatory Bitcoin sCrypt client update to v.1.3.3!

Please update v.1.3.3 because we have a hard-fork at block 96180 to implement the community approved algorithm tweaks.

Older clients will no longer work on the network after block 96180 so this is a mandatory update!

Specifically, the difficulty re-target period has been lowered from 3.5 days to 60 minutes in v.1.3.3.

Please update your client to v.1.3.3.

The source-code for v.1.3.3 is on github and can be located here.

The instructions for how to compile a Windows client from the source code using a deterministic gitian build can be found here.

The Mac OSX installer can be downloaded here.

The Linux v.1.3.3 client will be available shortly but can still be compiled from source.

Mandatory Version 1.3.2 Client Upgrade

Community,

There is a mandatory update for Bitcoin Scrypt to version 1.3.2 for a hard-fork at Block 96000 to change the difficulty algo.  All clients must update or risk losing coins!

Under the new difficulty algorithm, the difficulty will adjust once every 2520 blocks.  Thus, with 2 minute blocks the difficulty should adjust once every 3.5 days.  After this new algo takes effect, we will evaluate and tweak, as necessary, for stability.

SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS

The source code for version 1.3.2 can be found here.

Windows: The Windows Installer for version 1.3.2 Self-Install package can be found here:

Mac: The Install DMG for version 1.3.2 (Mac OS) can be found here.

Linux binaries will be released shortly but can still be compiled from source:

Compiling instructions for v.1.3.2 can be found here.

Again, this is a mandatory upgrade to client v.1.3.2 because of a hard-fork at block 96000 and older clients will no longer work on the blockchain.

Website Redesign Started and Bitcoin Scrypt getting stronger everyday

Hi Everyone,

First off, we would like to thank every single person that supports and continues to support Bitcoin Scrypt.

All of you are the only reason for BTCS to exist in the first place. Thereby BTC account providers have increased for users to create and manage Bitcoin accounts and you all are going to have full control of decentralization/future development.

This website has just been updated with a fully customizable template purchased by us and then tailored to the community.

Our aim to to make Bitcoin Scrypt a true Crypto-Currency, mined, controlled and developed by the community that drives it forward towards its primary goals.

Here are our key principles as they stand at the moment:

1) Mining Decentralization - This means NO specialized hardware for mining and if an ASIC miner for Scrypt is released then our Algorithm will evolve so that once again it is only minable by GPU’s and CPU’s.
2) Development Decentralization - This means that anyone who holds Bitcoin Scrypt in their wallet clients, can use an in built voting system. Bitcoin Scrypt updates happen when the community decides it should and how.
3) Constant Decentralization - We don’t need a foundation based around a set amount of individuals and the reason is that everyone who owns any BTCS coins is automatically a member of the foundation due to the voting system.

There is much more than what has just been posted on here and right now the best place for a constantly updating wealth of Bitcoin Scrypt information can be found on our forum, hosted on the fantastic Crypto-Currency dedicated forum based website at http://www.cryptocointalk.com

At the moment this website will be only a platform designed for the sole purpose of security;

Here you will always find links to the Official Windows Client download, the Original Omega6 Github Source Code (This would be like having Bitcoin SHA’s Github being the original Satoshi’s ;-)), Coin details and Get Started guide.

The reason for this is mainly for users new not only Bitcoin Scrypt but to Crypto-Currency in general. We want everyone’s experience to be enjoyable and problem free.

When you download the Windows Client from here and you are still very new to understanding Crypto-Currency Source Code, you are downloading it at least knowing that it is the official and up-to-date client version.

If you decide to download from any other website, then please make sure it is from a reliable and trustworthy source and that they have back links to this website.

We would also now like to inform you of our new Bitcoin Scrypt sister website The Other Bitcoin (http://theotherbitcoin.com, which will be the main website for Bitcoin Scrypt and will be constantly updated with the newest/future developments.

http://bitcoinscrypt.org (This website) is mainly for development/releases and important issues which will be posted on the blog.

What you may have seen or may know about Bitcoin Scrypt is just the beginning and we say this without arrogance but with passion and commitment that our aim is to make Bitcoin Scrypt THE Crypto-Currency of and for the people.

Bitcoin Scrypt - Bringing Bitcoin Back Into The Hands Of The People

Bitcoin Scrypt Version 1.2.0 Released

Thanks to some fantastic coding from Novebitme / Smokeasy the following changes have been implemented:

1) Fixed the issue with the initial blockchain download allowing for complete download of the blockchain from scratch.

2) Added Fast Dedicated Server node (31.193.130.77) to the source as a seed node allowing for much better connects without editing the conf file or using -addnode.

3) Added checkpoints at the 0, 11111, 33333, 55555 and 60000 block heights to create static checkpoints and better secure the blockchain.

4) Enabled the QR generator so now the client can generate QR codes.

5) Enabled the Windows Installer and the daemon.

6) Fixed the yml files in ../contrib/gitian-descriptors so the gitian builds work like a charm

7) Created step-by-step directions on creating a gitian build for windows so that anyone can compile the windows client from the source-code and compare their files’ checksum hashes with other user’s.

8) Changed the logo to reflect Bitcoin sCrypt instead of Bitcoin 2.

New Client Update and Name Change Inbound

We know it has been a while since any progress has been made on the development front with this coin but over the next few days a new client update will be released.

This will change the appdata directory name from Bitcoin to Bitcoin_Scrypt which is going to fix the one major flaw that this Crypto had, meaning that it will be viable to be added to the many exchanges. Even if you have the accessibility to multiple exchanges to buy and sell this new crypto, make sure to do the crypto exchange test to ensure you're dealing with the right platform.

There are even more updates and changes, the logo is now Bitcoin Scrypt and no longer Bitcoin 2, as we do not intend for this to replace Bitcoin but to be an alternative to it.

Think of Bitcoin SHA-256 as Pepsi and Bitcoin Scrypt as Coke, its going to be that kind of relationship.

More news to follow over the next few days along with links to the new Windows client and the source code.

Bitcoin SHA-256 Moves Progressively Out Of The Hands Of The Community

Hi all,

Don’t know if you have checked the difficulty of Bitcoin SHA-256 recently (http://bitcoindifficulty.com) but the current difficulty trend looks grim and only serves to move the original Crypto-Currency out of the hands of the general community and into only those that can afford an ASIC, which as we know is expensive hardware.

If Bitcoin SHA-256 can now only realistically be mined using specialised expensive ASIC hardware surely this means that as a currency it is no longer decentralised and has completely lost its original defining principles.

Bitcoin Scrypt however, with its fair and fast difficulty adjustment system, means that all miners get a chance to mine. By all miners, I mean those that own GPU’s which is more or less everyone and so keeps the new currency decentralised.

Add on top of this that it cannot be mined by ASIC and is also many times faster than Bitcoin SHA-256 for transaction confirmations.

Bitcoin SHA-256 - Average Transaction Six Confirmations Time = 1 to 2 hours.

Bitcoin Scrypt - Average Transaction Six Confirmations Time = 10 to 12 Minutes

Straight away you can see that Bitcoin Scrypt is designed to be a real world currency with such quick confirmations meaning that retailers and third parties have to take much less of a risk when speeding up transactions.

I know that there is a massive support base for Bitcoin SHA-256 but we have to be realistic and think what is best for the future of Cryptocoin’s as an actual effective currency and not borderline commodity.

I am not and never will tell people what to mine or what to use as their Crypto-Currency, I just give you the facts and then let you decided.

Is it time for Bitcoin SHA-256 to give some breathing space and some of that spotlight for the new, faster and decentralized Bitcoin Scrypt, which still carries all the same principles of the original back when it first started but just with a different mining Algorithm.

Is it a time for change?

BTCTalk Situation Nothing To Do With Bitcoin Scrypt

Hi everyone,

I have heard some gossip flying around and thought that I would put the record straight that the BTCTalk situation has nothing to do with us or connected with Bitcoin Scrypt.

Yes it is true that Bitcoin Scrypt cannot be mentioned about in posts and threads on that forum but it is their forum and they can make any new rules they want, which we respect.

We have this website, Twitter and Cryptocointalk to post our updates and keep supporters informed, which is more than enough.

Thank you for supporting us and this new Crypto-Currency.

Bitcoin Scrypt Crypto-Currency Website Update and Funding

As many of you might already know Bitcoin Scrypt had a infamous release mainly due to certain community members rightfully so believing this coin was  trying to be a straight up clone of Bitcoin SHA and even worse possibly cause users to lose their hard earned coins.

Since then Bitcoin Scrypt has increased exponentially in terms of popularity, it’s principles and it’s ideals, which is to become a true decentralized Crypto-Currency that can only be mined by standard graphics cards keeping the mining aspect of coin generation equally in the hands of the people .

If an ASIC like device is made for Scrypt, then we will change the Algorithm so that it can only be mined by graphics cards once again. We have a great team of equal developers and a growing community who through our new development voting system will have a democratic way to decide how Bitcoin Scrypt evolves.

We have no need for a foundation as funding for this project is not an issue and we only develop with this Open Source project purely because we want to see a fast, secure and truly decentralized global economically viable payment system with an aim to have every nation using this same form of payment.

This would mean no more inflation, an end to multiple monetary stock exchanges and most of all not having to rely on a governmental system that uses “Money” as a form of control to dictate how much they think any given product is worth which is not democratic in any sense.

We, the people, born into a world of equality and freedom of speech should be able to decide for ourselves how much “things” are worth based on the simple principle of supply and demand like we did have hundreds of years ago; if a local village had a large stockpile of wheat due to hard work and planning but the next village along had stockpiles of coal then supply and demand would dictate how much the coal and wheat would be to each village, a fair system.

Our current monetary system to date has manage to achieve whole nations in debt, constant rise of inflation mainly due to possible excess printing of currency (have we not learned anything from Germany and
hyperinflation) and because of how our governments are running our countries we have to suffer the consequences meaning reductions in the yearly minimum wage rise percentage and often it not matching the inflation rate.

We no longer live on or in just one Earth anymore, there are two and because of this we have finally evolved into a true digital age with endless possibilities.

The Physical Earth - Currently run by governments and corporations, limited by resources and the laws of reality.

The Digital Earth - The World Wide Web which is in a constant state of evolution, faster than any Government or Corporation can keep up with and controlled by anyone with access.

However, the powers that be are not happy with controlling the Physical Earth, they want to have full control of the Digital Earth too and we are supposed to be living in a society based on the principles of freedom.

The Digital Earth (TDA) has no limits, no laws of reality and the scope of it’s wonder is fueled as a species by our limitless imagination. With Virtual Reality devices becoming a true possibility, combined with a digital payment system, which Earth would you choose to live in?

We cannot sit back and let this happen as every single person on this planet is equal and should by this right alone, be able to choose how they live their lives and decide on their own what really is “worth” something.

The only way that everyone can be truly free is if we take away the controlling current economic factor and use a global digital equivalent system free from inflation and controlled equally by everyone.

Welcome to the future.

Welcome to Bitcoin Scrypt.
